Beyond Meat Gets the Boot from Tim Hortons in Canada

Beyond Meat products are getting booted off the menu at Tim Hortons in Canada, FOX Business reports. Tim Hortons restaurants have stopped selling the plant-alternative protein products at its coffee and donut shops across two of Canada’s biggest provinces.

The chain had been serving the Beyond Burger and a Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich made with the company’s imitation sausage products. The offerings launched last June at nearly 4,000 Canadian locations, but the items were scaled back to the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia in September.

The restaurant chain, owned by Restaurant Brands International, said the plant-based protein was offered for a limited time as a test to see if it was a product guests wanted to see on the menu.

It appears it was not.

“Ultimately, the product was not embraced by our guests as we thought it would be,” a representative of Tim Hortons told FOX Business.

The restaurant may offer plant-based alternatives in the future, but they have been removed from the menu for now.

This marks a new setback for the plant-based protein maker that has recently announced an expansion of its partnership with Subway in Canada to begin serving meatball subs nationwide.

In addition, Dunkin rolled out a limited release through Jan. 19 of a Beyond Meat sausage sandwich with the help of Snoop Dogg.

According to FOX Business, the Beyond D-O-Double G Sandwich combined the rapper’s passion for plant-based protein and love of glazed donuts.
