Machinery Pete: Auction Prices, Second Quarter 2019

So, what’s happening with used planter values you ask? It’s really difficult to generalize all used planters into one blanket statement, but here it goes. Used values have been on a slow increase since the start of 2018 and into early 2019. Buyers are zeroed in on finding the used planter spec’d out exactly the way they want and need.

In my quarterly Machinery Pete “Used Values Index” report, the planting/seed equipment category bottomed out in the first and third quarters of 2016 with a 5.4 rating. (On a 1 to 10 scale, 6 is considered normal/stable). From a 5.6 index rating in the fourth quarter of 2017, used planter values bumped higher each of the next five quarters to a 6.2 rating in the first quarter of this year.

On The Search

When it comes to auctions, prices are up slightly on used planters in good condition. We’re also seeing more search traffic on planters at MachineryPete.com, up 31.4% in the first quarter of this year versus the same quarter in 2018.

The frustratingly wet and very late 2019 planting season also affected buyer demand/need for good used planters.
